The Avenue is a print, Mid-Atlantic-based literary journal open to the joy that is all things literary. We are committed to the quirky, the dark, the artistic, the tortured, the beautiful, the disenfranchised. If it’s writing and if it’s good, we want it. Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, genre, experimental, theatrical. We want it. Give it to us. Now.
The first issue’s theme was The Good, the Bad, the Ugly, the City. Our second issue, out now, is themed Woman. And our upcoming issue, forthcoming 2016/2017, is themed Southern.
All submissions must in some way relate to our themes. How it relates, we leave to you.
We believe that the community of writers and artists is one that is necessary for any success in artistic endeavors. As such, we want any interested in submitting to be open to the idea of attending and participating in literary events around the publication of the issue. We hope to host readings in cities all around the Mid-Atlantic region and want our contributors to attend these events, meet each other, shake some hands, get involved.
That isn’t to say we don’t want contributions from other places. If you’re in Djibouti or Kyrgyzstan or Los Angeles, please, submit. Just be aware of our preferences.
